Breed Standards for the Wire Fox Terrier
General Appearance:
A short backed and square proportioned, but at the same time standing over a lot of ground
Head:
Rather small, deep-set, and round eyes; Skull flat and moderately narrow, head 7-7.25” long; Small, V-shaped ears, dropping forward with fold above skull level
Tail:
Tail set high and carried gaily, but not over back or curled; about one fourth docked off
Color:
White should predominate (brindle, red, or liver markings are objectionable)
Size:
Weight: male 17-19 lb; female: 15-17 lb
Height: male: should not exceed 15.5”; female: smaller
Gait:
The gait while trotting gets most of its propulsion from the rear quarters
Coat:
The coat is dense, wiry, broker, and twisted, almost appearing like coconut matting, with a short, fine undercoat. The outer coat may be crinkled, but it should not be curly.
Temperament:
A true live-wire, always up for adventure
