Purebred registration is important to many dog owners. Especially if you are interested in participating in competitions and dog shows, verifying your dog’s lineage is a must. At the National Kennel Club, we strive to make the process as easy and convenient as possible.
Here are our steps to purebred registration:
- Download our application form. It’s a one-page form that gives us all the information we need to register your purebred. We have streamlined our processes to make them as quick as possible and we are always here to help if you have any questions.
- Verify other registries. If your dog has been registered elsewhere, no problem. We only ask that you include a copy of the pedigree too, so we can verify the breed. We accept other registries as proof of pedigree in our registration process.
- Get a pedigree inspection. If your dog has not been previously registered, you will need to have an inspection performed by a veterinarian or one of our licensed inspectors. We also require two photos of your dog (front and side view) to verify the breed.
- Include your dog’s lineage and other information. Our form includes a lineage section to fill out going back up to three generations. If you have any questions or concerns about this, don’t hesitate to contact us. We also ask that you provide your dog’s DNA number and microchip number, if applicable.
- Send in your application form and payment. We have several payment options to suit your needs. Processing times can take a few weeks depending on our backlog, and rushed service is available for an additional fee.
We’ve been providing exemplary purebred registration for 60 years and are dedicated to supporting purebred breeds and their owners. To start your dog’s registration process, download our application form here.
