Breed Standards for the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon
General Appearance:
It should be slightly longer than tall, of medium substance.
Head:
Eyes large and rounded, in all shades of yellow and brown; Nose brown; Abundant mustache and eyebrows; High-set, medium-sized ears
Color:
Preferably steel gray with brown markings, also chestnut brown, or roan, white and brown. Less desirable is solid brown, solid white, or white and orange
Size:
Weight: 50-60 lb; Height: male: 22-24”; female: 20-22”
Coat:
The coat is of medium length, straight and wiry, with a fine, downy, thick undercoat.
Gait:
Its gait is efficient and tireless, with low, catlike strides
Temperament:
A skilled field dog, pointing and retrieving with a deliberate style, generally staying within the hunter’s gun range.
