Breed Standard for the Papillon
General Appearance:
The extraordinary long-fringed, butterfly-like ears are the reason behind the breed’s name, papillon being French for butterfly.
Head:
Round eyes; small rounded head with fine muzzle; ears erect or dropped
Tail:
Long tail carried arched over body and covered with a long plume
Coat:
Its abundant coat is long, silky, straight, and flowing.
Color:
White; patches of any color but tan
Size:
Height is 8 – 11 inches; Weight is 9 – 10 pounds.
Temperament:
Showing no aggression, always alert, lively, intelligent, and friendly, this breed makes a fascinating and charming companion, and the abundant coat is reasonably easy to keep in good order.
