Breed Standards for the American Cocker Spaniel

General Appearance – The American Cocker Spaniel is a compact and sturdy dog.
Head – Expression alert, soft, and appealing; Rounded skull with pronounced stop; Long, low-set, lobular ears
Tail – Tail docked and carried in line or slightly higher than the topline
Color – Black variety: Solid black or black and tan; Solid colors: Cream, red, brown, and brown with tan points. Particolor variety: any of the allowed solid colors broken up on a white background also roans.
Size – Weight: 24 – 28 lb
Height – male: 14.5 – 15.5”; female: 13.5 – 14.5”
Coat – Silky, flat or slightly wavy, not overly long.
Gait – Its gait is ground covering, strong, and effortless.
Temperament – A playful, cheerful, amiable, sweet, sensitive, willing to please and responsive to its family’s wishes.
