Breed Standards for the Basenji

General Appearance and Coat- Its short coat aids in dealing with the hot climate of Africa

Head and Neck- Almond shaped eyes, fine, profuse wrinkles on Forehead, visible when ears are erect, small erect Ears.

Front Quarters- Small oval feet

Hind Quarters- Short back, tail bends acutely forward and lies well Curled over to either side

Special Characteristics- red, black, black and tan, or brindle, all with white Feet, chest and tail tips; white legs, blaze, and Collar optional.

Temperament- Clever, inquisitive, stubborn, independent, and Reserved.
